The Alberta Provincial Government announced October 15, 2018 that a Farm Health and Safety Producer Grant Program has been developed to assist farmers with the costs of implementing the new Alberta OH&S Farming Legislation.

Grant Details: 

• The Farm Health and Safety Producer Grant offers financial assistance to eligible farmers that have waged, non-family workers and a WCB account 
• Applicants can now apply for the grant that will pay up to 50% of the cost of eligible expenses up to $5,000 per year or $10,000 over the life of the program per applicant
• The program helps farmers comply with the OH&S code that will take effect on December 1, 2018. 
• The grant is available October 15, 2018 and runs until March 2021

Northern Strands' Bin Protection System is eligible for 50% off using this grant. Northern Strands also offers various safety training courses that are covered by the Alberta Farm Health and Safety Producer Grant.

A new legislation will soon require Alberta farmers to ensure their farms are equipped with proper safety plans. Emergency response, fall protection, and hazard assessments are just some of the plans that will be implemented to ensure worker safety on Alberta farms. The Alberta agriculture sector will now begin using checklists to help maintain these safety programs.

One of the largest concerns for Alberta farm and worker safety is grain bin fall protection. Alberta farmers can use the Northern Strands Grain Bin Fall Protection system to protect workers from a fall while climbing or accessing a grain bin for repairs. The user simply attaches a harness to a traveller and moves the traveller up as they climb the bin. The Grain Bin Fall Protection System meets OH&S farming requirements, is easy to use, and is cost effective all while protecting farmers, workers, or family members from a devastating fall.

Based out of Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Northern Strands provides services to Canadian farmers and mines all across the country. With safety as an integral part of operations, Northern Strands has grown over the years in order to develop this patented Grain Bin Fall Protection System.

This fall protection system is a cutting edge product designed to protect farm workers from a fall while climbing or accessing a bin for repairs or inspections. In today’s world, worker/farmer safety has never been more emphasized and important than it is right now. At Northern Strands we believe serious injuries are preventable and avoidable with proper planning and systems in place. It is with this belief in mind that Northern Strands accepted the challenge of making grain bin inspections and repairs more safe by developing a fall protection system. When properly installed and used, our system will prevent a person from falling off a grain bin and impacting the ground or falling into the bottom of a grain bin and suffocating. Currently this system is compatible with the Westor and Westeel 1805 bins. Northern Strands is working on Fall Protection Systems that will work for other models of grain bins.

The launch for this new Grain Bin System is happening at AG in Motion Tuesday July 18, 2017 - Thursday July 20, 2017. AG in Motion is just 15 mins NW of Saskatoon on Hwy 16 at Range Road 3083. Northern Strands will be at Booth Space 420. There will be demos throughout the week.
